Klaus: A DocumentaryThis first version article originally appeared in the September 2002 issue of quakeFilm magazine.  It has been significantly revised and updated.

“This is Klaus.  On July 17th, 1997, he turned 37.  For the last twenty years, Klaus has published a fanzine called Klaus.” -The opening graphic for Michael Calderon’s short film, Klaus.

A Long Way Down SunsetA Busty-Beauty sixteen year old takes a Michael Jackson Thriller pose on a bus stop billboard. She is ogled by passing eldermen who don’t mind scuttling chronology as long at they believe the breasts underneath that tight shirt are too young to have scalpel scars. I’m a long way down Sunset from 1983, when this street was as familiar to me as the shade-grown suburban cul-de-sac of my Santa Clara High years. Hey, you're the one who is doing the great stuff.

It very much reminds me of Scott Morse' work. He's a great little artist (Visitations and my all-time fave, SoulWind) and he even went to high school with me. He did the all-time best cartoon of me back when I ran for Mayor of my hometown.

Might you be willing to accept a commission to do the cover for one of my zines?
